I purchased a Nesco Food Dehydrator quite a while ago, but I finally had a chance to use it because I found a great fruit sale. I decided to dry Bananas for my first experiment because I find them totally delicious (good reason right?). It was really fun.
First, I drained some Pineapple juice to dip the Bananas in. Any kind of Vitamin C will work (Pineapple Juice, 7Up, crushed up Vitamin C in water), but I chose Pineapple Juice because I like Pineapple and Bananas. I dipped the slices in the Pineapple Juice and put them on the tray. I also put the Pineapple pieces on the tray just to see how they would turn out.

I filled 5 trays and I still had some Bananas left over. I ended up using 13 to 15 bananas. It just depends on the size that you are able to find as to how many you would use. I had purchased medium and large ones.

I put the top of the Dehydrator on and set it at 135 degrees Fahrenheit. Then you let it dry as long as you need. I found that mine took about 12 hours to dry. The bottom couple of trays needed a bit more time, but they turned out great! It was really fun. I got the Bananas for $.39 a pound, and I bought a total of 9 pounds. Since I didn’t use everything I purchased, I figure I have these great healthy snacks that will last me a little while for only about $2.25. What is next? Apples for sure.
