Golden Spike

If you read my blog two days ago you know that I posted a picture of a train.  If you were wondering where it was, and you were waiting for the answer, here it is!

On May 10, 1869 the Central Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad met in Promontory, Utah completing the transcontinental railroad.  That spot is now the Golden Spike National Historic Site, and on Saturday’s in the summer you can go and participate in a re-enactment of the event.  In my house we call little trips like these educational adventures.  They are pretty fun.

The re-enactment is complete with period costumes, golden spike replicas, and audience participation just as if you were the audience in 1869.

After the re-enactment the actors pose for pictures.  This particular educational adventure happened because the people I work with at my full time job, and myself, all went camping together for a weekend.  The guy in Orange with the hammer is my boss.  (He rocks.. seriously.)

My husband taking his turn with the hammer, and a cool picture I took of one of the trains.

This is the actual point where the two railroads came together.

Last, but not least, my favorite picture taken during the day.  Picture credit goes to my co-workers boyfriend; he definitely knows how to use a camera, and he and I always talk about photography.

We had fun, and it was a very cool spot to visit.  I even got my best friend a map because she loves maps.  It was a totally successful educational adventure.  I recommend making time to go see it if you happen to be in Northern Utah!
