I love weddings, but I also realize that love and marriage is more than a wedding. I think I have chosen to focus my photography in the direction of weddings because I love watching people who are in love. I especially love photographing the day of those people who are looking past their day, and who are excited to have more than a wedding with the person they love. I talk to the couples I photograph and I hear it in their goals, I see it in their details, and I watch it as they make promises to each other; they are commited. I have been lucky enough to photograph couples who have a positive outlook on marriage and life, and who seem to realize the goal of actually growing old together. I wish for each couple that I photograph that they will be able to grow in closeness, and that they will be always be able to work out their differences together. Marriage is work, tears, laughter, struggles, joy, forgiveness, apologies, accepting, adapting, and supporting. It is worked on daily, it is messy, and it is the most worthwhile commitment a man and woman can make together.
These are my grandparents. They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. This photograph was taken at the party that was planned for them to celebrate their wonderful accomplishment. People must have realized how rare it is to have made it together that long. because soon after their anniversary they were interviewed for a few different articles. If you would like to read a little bit more about them, click HERE for a link to one of the articles.

Life has handed my grandparents plenty of ups and downs. Things have not always been perfect for them, just like it isn’t perfect for anyone. They are not perfect people, just like no one is perfect. They saw more than a wedding day when they were married, and they continually worked at their commitment. I am grateful that in my life I was raised with strong beliefs about the importance of marriage and family. I am pretty far from 65 years with my husband, but I sure look forward to spending time with him while we work at getting there.
Happy Anniversary G&G!
