Just a fun summer treat at my house! Summer (and the holiday season at the end of the year) bring out the festive-ness in me. This is just a little bit of that festive-ness.

I got this idea from a Jell-o cookbook that I got when I was a child. I have always wanted to try it. I did it a little bit my own way. This is how:
I made the white cake using this recipe, but with just a few changes. I used 2 2/3 cups of flour instead of 2 1/2 cups. I also cooked it for 50 minutes because I made it in a 9×13 glass pan, and it said in the recipe that if you use a 9×13 pan it would take longer than the normal 30-40 minutes to cook.
After the cake came out of the oven I let it cool for about 15 minutes, then I poked holes all over the top of it with the handle of the wooden spoon. After that I made Strawberry Jell-o following these instructions. I boiled 1 Cup of Water, dissolved the Jell-o then added 1/2 cup cold water. I poured it over the cake, then put it in the fridge. The Jell-o recipe book said to let it chill for 3 to 4 hours, but I let it chill for 2 and it worked out for me.
After that 2 hours I made Whipped Cream in my Kitchenaid mixerusing a half pint of whipping cream, 1/4 cup of powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
Use Blueberries and Strawberries to make the flag, you can also use marshmallows for the white stripes because that is what they do in the Jell-o cookbook.
If you try it, ENJOY!
