My First Chance At A First Look

One of my favorite Christmas movies comes to mind when I think of this first look; and it isn’t because it was anything like Christmas.  Thanks to the fabulous and funny Buddy the Elf, I find myself thinking “I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it!!”  IN LOVE is totally what I feel after my first opportunity at doing a first look.  For those of you who don’t know what this is, or are new to photography, this is the first time a groom sees his bride.  The awesome part about a first look is that it is not when a groom sees his bride as she is coming down the aisle, it is a special moment planned for a time before the wedding even begins.  It is a chance to see, and love, and have that moment where he can tell her she is beautiful without having to wait for a walk down the aisle, and an entire wedding ceremony before he can tell her.

During the royal wedding highlights I found myself wishing that William and Kate could have had a first look.  The reveal and him being the last person to see her was a big deal.  It was fun to see how beautiful he thought she was, and the romantic in me thought “look at him, he is so sweet, he loves her” (not to mention I was totally smitten with him as a teenager, so I loved it), but I thought about how sweet that moment could have been if they had been able to be alone beforehand, and instead of whispering over to her while the ceremony was going on, he could have held her and told her.

Speaking of being smitten.  These two are totally smitten with each other.  They are so IN LOVE (capitalized, bolded, exclamation pointed).  They are getting married on June 25 in the Logan LDS Temple.  LDS Temple weddings are a little different when it comes to scheduling a First Look because the bride and groom usually need to be at the Temple a certain amount of time beforehand, and photography is not allowed in the temple, so a photographer usually arrives to take pictures outside the temple once the ceremony is over.  LDS Brides and Grooms sometimes opt to do a First Look the day before, or at a session like a formal session that happens beforehand.  Alicia and Cody wanted to do a formal session beforehand, and when I showed up and explained a First Look, they thought that sounded fantastic as well.  It was so fun standing there with Cody and seeing his excitement as he was waiting for her.  You can see the fantastic expression on his face in the picture when he realizes she is there in the yard behind him.  It was perfect.  He loves her, and there was nothing better than the reveal and seeing his reaction at how stunning Alicia was.  They got to spend time living in that moment and having that memory.  First Looks don’t get forgotten.
