I woke up thrilled and totally not believing that February 20 had finally come and I was on my way to WPPI. Incase I haven’t explained what WPPI even is, it stands for Wedding & Portrait Photographers International, and the event I went to is a yearly event that is filled with classes and a trade show. It is pretty much a convention for photographers. You always hope that when you get to an airport and get on an airplane that everything is going to be fine. My only story is this. I got on my plane, and after I got seated I looked to the front of the plane in enough time to see the pilot leave the cockpit, and some maintenance workers from the airline go in. Not a good sign. Needless to say, that plane wasn’t getting off the ground (thank heavens they figured that out), and we all de-planed and waited for the airline to get us on a different flight or figure out what they were going to do. We got a new plane, and more than an hour after I was supposed to leave, we left on a healthy airplane. (my favorite.)

I got to Vegas, took an airport shuttle, got called wholesome by the driver (because I thanked him for helping me), and arrived at my hotel. Poor Kristen (my amazing friend from childhood, and the owner of K Leigh Ford Photography), was stuck waiting for a standby flight from the Dallas airport, so I went ahead and bought a monorail pass so I could go check in and get my awesome badge. I will be totally truthful that I felt so cool with my badge. I had missed the first class I was going to take because of the delays with my flight, and I had missed the next batch of classes, so I headed back to my hotel and got some dinner. The first night event was a Fashion show put on by Sony, so around 7:00 I headed back to the MGM Grand so I could go to that. Nigel Barker from America’s Next Top Model was hosting the fashion show, and even alone, I had a blast. He did a photo shoot on the spot by pulling a few people from the audience. He is doing a book capturing raw images of people. He wants real images of who they are. He then hosted a fashion show. I learned a little more about Sony cameras than I wanted to know (being a Canon girl and all), but it was still a cool event.

Kristen finally made it in after the fashion show. It was amazing to see her. Three days of laughing began right then!
